Kobo Kobo Hills

What the desert paradise?

I thought I had died and gone to heaven..but was then reminded that if there was a heaven, I would most likely be on the polar.  Fair enough..  So maybe this is as close as I’ll get!

Kobo Kobo Hills is situated between Windvoek & Swakopmund, but further into the desert, where the mountain range and desert meet.

I met Kirty & Eugene as I pulled in.  They own this joint and had been walking their two lovely dogs in the hills and greeted me with big smiley faces.  Wine and beer were poured, dinner was cooked on the grill and as the sun went down and the harsh light of the sinking sun hit the mountain range, I was in awe.  This place truly is beautiful beyond words.  As the skylight dims,  on comes two small floodlights that give vision to the watering hole just below the viewing area where we sat.  Visitors include Oryx, Mountain Zebra, Kudu, Jackals, Hyenas etc.  I was going to go down and drink from there (ya know…blend in) but I was warned by some peers that it would not have been ‘Socially Acceptable’ and “Not Cool Dude”.   I was satisfied with the response that the animals might not like it:)

Up out of the red glow of the subsiding coals from our delicious Oryx dinner, you can see an immense system of uncountable stars.  Call me a city kid, but the vast Milky Ways incommensurate with human understanding.  I had never seen a sky like this.

We slept in thatched cottages and the evening air blew through the room.  My lungs were like ah ah omg.  My brain was like… …. …I slept the best I had the whole trip.  I did however wake at 6:30 as not to miss the sunrise that Eugene had warned me about.  I almost forgot to get some footage of this event, but remembered around 7am and have provided it to you.

During the day, there is as much Hiking, Bouldering & Climbing you can handle.  The area is vast, but you need not stray far to get your fill.  Eugene and Kirsty also provide game drives and guided walks.
There’s a nice pool, bar and chill areas if you want to just hangout.  Although you are entitled to drink more beer if you burn 1000’s of calories hiking.  The views are wild from above.

What else can I say…
The natural and man made environment is unreal..the food was incredible and the company was delightful.  If I become a giraffe in my next life, I’ll come live in the valleys of Kobo Kobo Hills.
